In a new solar module due out this year, a row of troughs pivots during the day, tracking the sun. The aluminum sides of the troughs direct light to a silicon solar-cell strip at the bottom of each trough. A lens molded into the troughs' transparent cover also directs light to the solar cell. The module costs half as much to make as a conventional solar panel.
