In this case is a complete system: a wireless transceiver, a sensor-equipped helmet, a pager to alert the athletic trainer, and a laptop to compute the data. The software and a remote database reside on the laptop. The sensors in the helmet record and transmit an impact to the laptop. The software on the laptop analyzes this data, stores it on the database, and determines if the impact exceeds a predefined impact-severity threshold. If so, an alphanumeric page is sent out to the sideline staff that describes the player number, impact magnitude, and impact time. The data that is stored on the laptop is automatically uploaded to the Simbex consolidated database whenever the user connects it to the Internet.
