When Carlos Prieto told Mexican writer Gabriel García Márquez that he was researching the history of his Stradivari cello for a book, the writer asked Prieto if he could meet the instrument, which is known as Piatti. “Never in its long history has the Piatti been played by such a novice or by a more brilliant interpreter,” wrote Prieto of the 2000 meeting in his book The Adventures of a Cello.
