Description Text

This figure shows one complete cycle of the adult mouse heart. Blue areas are low in calcium and red areas are high in calcium. Heart blood vessels are clearly visible as dark blue areas. Top row: Waves of activity pass through the upper chambers of the heart as they pump blood into the lower chambers. At the same time, the lower chambers relax. Bottom row: Activity peaks in the lower chambers as they pump blood out of the heart while the upper chambers relax.
